The
biggest asset to Tailormade in this race is that he has champion jockey Anton
Marcus in the irons. He has ridden him twice in Tailormade’s 51-run career
starts, resulting in one win and a close up fifth last year. After that the
horse went off the boil rather badly but then came a tight win at Greyville on
July day followed by an honest effort just recently at Clairwood behind Hawk’s
Eye, who looks a top stayer.
In his
last two runs Tailormade carried 61.5kg, and he now drops to 59.5kg. His draw
of No 6 should be of no worry over 2400m, which happens to be the same distance
as his last win.
The only
concern for Tailormade is his questionable form at Scottsville. He has battled
at the course, only picking up two places from six starts. His first two runs
at the track were good but in subsequent runs he has ‘got lost’ at the
Pietermaritzburg track.
What
Next is very honest and ran 1.80 lengths to Tailormade last time. There is
little to suggest he can turn it around at the weights but the Glen Puller
stable has come to form, so watch for a big run.
Roused
could be anything here. He is a lightly raced son of Royal Academy who will
obviously have no question marks about the trip. He won his only run over the
course and distance albeit beating one of the most disappointing horses around
in Victory Beat.
