Registered as the Stardom Stakes, the seven-furlong
Listed contest for juveniles looked like attracting a top-class field at the
five-day stage but only six will go to post, and most look exposed.
The same cannot be said of Titus Mills, however, who has
won his only start to date. That he was able to do that bodes well - Meehan's
juveniles invariably improve a great deal for their initial experience and he
battled well to hold off the consistent, if winless, Noonenose.
While the runner-up has finished second again since, he
now has a rating of 85. The third and fourth both won next time out to give the
form a very solid look. The Dubawi colt holds some fancy entries later in the
season and if he is to take up any of those, victory here is a must.
Richard Hannon has admitted he is running short on
ammunition in his battle to be crowned champion trainer but Humdrum should add
to his tally in the EBF Racing UK Maiden Fillies' Stakes. Well beaten on her
debut, the daughter of Dr Fong has finished second the last twice. While the
form of those races is nothing to write home about, the step up in trip should
hopefully see her in a new light.
Not many trainers are quite as hot as John Gosden at the
moment so it is likely to take a fair effort to stop his Liberty Cap in the
George Anthony Celebration Nursery. A son of Street Cry, he has had a busy
campaign and is no superstar. But one win and two placed efforts from six
starts shows he has the right attitude.
His last run was particularly noteworthy, as he had far
from a smooth passage at Windsor which did not help his cause against a
progressive favourite in Piso Sour, who could turn out to be very useful for
the Hughie Morrison yard. Liberty Cap was five lengths clear of the third
himself and would be most unlucky to bump into something similar to Piso Sour
in this.
Godolphin's Sahafh looks a good thing in Lingfield's EBF
Maiden Fillies' Stakes. The Rock Hard Ten filly has had the misfortune to bump
into a couple of smart recruits in her early career.
Third behind Cape Dollar on debut, who has since finished
third in the Prestige Stakes, and second behind Ed Dunlop's Musharakaat, who is
very highly thought of, is decent form in the context of this race. She cost
nearly 500,000 pounds so a win will be vital for breeding purposes.- Press Association
