Moore’s Apache Warrior looks a straight arrow
LONDON - Middleham trainer George Moore has his small string in good heart at present and APACHE WARRIOR can build on a promising debut in the LA Taxis Maiden Stakes at Newcastle.

On a low-key day, this striking three-year-old ran way above expectations at Ripon last week and given that he also ran greenly, a fair amount of improvement can be expected.

Moore is not known for first-time out winners, especially those who have failed to make the track at two, but you could not fail to be impressed by the son of Westerner. He was always going to need a trip, being by a sire who won an Ascot Gold Cup, but he was noted to be travelling noticeably better with 400m to run than the eventual winner, 1-5 favourite Al Muthanaa. Apache Warrior eventually went down by a length but left the impression he would be winning soon and the run will have tightened him up a good deal.

The trainers of the north are doing all they can in Paul Hanagan's pursuit of the title and Howard Johnson has booked him for CALYPSO MAGIC in the EBF Maiden Stakes. Although he was beaten at 1-3 last time out, winner Cape Of Dance could be useful. Calypso Magic has earned a rating of 80 in three runs but Johnson believes he is capable of scoring at this level, rather than going into nurseries.

One of interest in the same race is Mark Johnston's TASFEYA, closely related to Awzaan.

Luca Cumani is having a great end to the season and ISOBAR should defy top weight in the University & Literary Club Bristol Maiden Handicap at Bath.

Third to Autumn Riches over 1600m at Pontefract, the step up to 2400m seemed to suit when he finished second in his handicap debut at Folkestone. He should be suited by this extra 200m and simply has to go close to winning a poor affair.

Just 30 minutes later BAOLI can make it three wins from four her last four starts in the Weatherbys Printing Fillies' Handicap. Kirsty Milczarek gets a good tune out of her and though she is 5.5kg higher than her win at Lingfield in May, the step up in trip has seen her improve.

JANUARY won on his first start for Liam Corcoran since leaving Ted Walsh and could rattle up a sequence, with the South West Racing Club Handicap Chase at Newton Abbot next on his agenda. - Press Association.
